What is dengue?
Dengue is an infectious disease caused by a virus. You can get it if an infected mosquito bites you. It is common in warm, wet areas of the world. Outbreaks occur in the rainy season.
Symptoms include a high fever, headaches, joint and muscle pain, vomiting and a rash. Most people with dengue recover within 2 weeks. Until then, drinking lots of fluids, resting and taking non-aspirin fever-reducing medicines might help. Sometimes dengue turns into dengue hemorrhagic fever, which causes bleeding from your nose, gums or under your skin. It can also become dengue shock syndrome, which causes massive bleeding and shock. These forms of dengue are life-threatening
To address the dengue menace in the City, the Government Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital has started trial testing one of the remedies of dengue, certified by the Central body of Homoeopathic medicine.
The hospital, which started the trial test of Eupatorium since last week, has covered 250 families in Akshay Nagar area in the City till now.
“Eupatorium is one of the 25 remedies prescribed for dengue treatment. Trial test for the medicine was done in Delhi, where it was approved. Here, we gave family kits, which have medicines for a 4-member family for three days,” said Dr A L Patil, the hospital’s principal and hospital superintendent.
The medicine is given free of cost and has no side-affects, he said. However, a detailed report of the research work will be available after a month.
